A complete white out of British and Irish racing leaves us with very little to get our teeth stuck into. One thing that I won't be betting on, or voting on for that matter is sports personality of the year. Don't get me wrong I think that AP deserves to win as much as the next racing enthusiast but what do I object to is the way that the press and racing authorities have collectively put a gun to ours heads to vote for him. The press I can almost understand as it's been a quiet week in the journals and to be perfectly honest they wouldn't be the most imaginative bunch, but the powers that be in racing terms have spent in excess of £500,000 promoting this cause. Surely this money could have spent more wisely. No doubt it was another Racing For Change directive! Never has a body been so aptly named, although Racing For Spare Change, which is what we seem to be doing, may have been more accurate.
